Student Council Hosting Middle and High School Trivia Bowl

Student Council will be hosting the 1st Annual Mercer Middle-High School Trivia Bowl. Student teams will compete against each other to see who has a better grasp of random trivia. This event was developed in large part due to the widespread success of mobile games Trivia Crack and Quiz Up. This competition will feature questions from a breadth of miscellaneous topics. The winning team will receive a trophy.



The Middle School Tournament will be held on Monday, April 4th at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Students in grades 7 and 8 have the opportunity to sign up as a team of three to participate in this trivia contest. There are no entrance fees or spectator fees for this event. Interested students must sign up on the Student Activities Bulletin Board by April 1st.

The High School Tournament will be held on Tuesday, April 5th at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Students in grades 9 through 12 have the opportunity to sign up as a team of three to participate in this trivia contest. There are no entrance fees or spectator fees for the event. Interested students must sign up on the Student Activities Bulletin Board by April 1st.

March 28th Baseball Game CANCELLED

Due to inclement weather, the JV/Varsity Baseball game versus Cambridge Springs has been CANCELLED.

The make-up game versus Cambridge Springs will be held on Thursday, March 31st at Brandy Springs Park with a 4:00 p.m. start time.


Mercer Wrestlers Heading to Virginia Beach

Members of the Mercer Middle School and Mercer High School Wrestling Team will be traveling to Virginia Beach, VA to compete in the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) National Wrestling Championships from April 1st- April 3rd.

NJHS Hosting Middle School Dance

The Mercer National Junior Honor Society is hosting a dance for students in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade on Saturday, April 9th from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.

The theme of the dance is 'Heroes vs. Villains'. The attire is casual or dressing as your favorite superhero or supervillain.

The cost is $6.00 pre-sale or $7.00 at the door.

Keiran Anderson Claims First Place at Tri-Bowl State Tournament

On February 29th and March 7th, three Mercer students participated in the Tri-Bowl Academic Games Competition at Grove City College. This competition is part of the Academic Games Leagues of America.

The results from the competition have been released. Eighth grade student Keiran Anderson earned 1st place overall in the Presidents competition at the Tri-Bowl Competition.

Speech Results From N.S.D.A National Qualifier

On Saturday, March 12th the Mercer Speech Team traveled to North Allegheny High School to compete in the NSDA Pittsburgh District National Qualifying Tournament. Ten Mercer speakers advanced to the final round in their respective categories. Three Mercer speakers have qualified for the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament, to be held from June 12-17 in Salt Lake City, Utah. These three qualifiers were presented with gold trophies and national qualifier plaques.

In the category of humorous interpretation, sophomore Andrew Brinker earned 1st place honors. This marks the first time since 2011 that a Mercer competitor in the HI category earned the top spot in qualifiers.

In the category of duo interpretation, senior Ryan Hamilton and sophomore Maddie Rowe became the 11th duo team in Mercer history to represent the Pittsburgh district at NSDA nationals. This is the second time in as many years that Ryan has qualified for the NSDA national tournament. This team won their duo interpretation category by a 2-point margin.

Other Mercer speakers were also recognized for their performance during the qualifier:

Mason Borowicz placed 3rd overall in humorous interpretation, making him an alternate for the national tournament.

Janalyn Miklas placed 4th overall in dramatic interpretation.

Abby Grabigel and Brianna Jarrett placed 4th overall in duo interpretation.

Emily Kirila placed 5th overall in original oratory.

Cole McDuffie placed 5th overall in informative speaking

Sarah Turton placed 6th overall in oral interpretation

Ten Mercer Juniors Heading to Rotary International Ethics Symposium

On Wednesday, March 22nd, ten Mercer High School juniors will travel to Grove City College to attend a one-day ethics symposium, hosted by the Rotary of Grove City. This will be the second year for this event. The participants will take part in various sessions throughout the day with over 300 other local students in the surrounding area.

The following Mercer High School students will be attending the 2nd Annual Rotary Club of Grove City Ethics Symposium: Abby Grabigel, Alex VanWoert, Brittany Watson, Grace Ruhlman, Jaime Burdette, Jon-Carl Hostetler, Kaitlin Berger, Kate Timashenka, Matt Mathias, and Megan Parker.

Mercer Baseball Team Heading to South Carolina

The Mercer High School Baseball Team will be travelling to Myrtle Beach, SC to attend a baseball camp from Thursday, March 17th to Monday, March 21st. The baseball team will have an opportunity to play multiple games against teams from across the country. This world-class facility is known as The Ripken Experience, which was created by legendary baseball player Cal Ripken Jr.

10th Grade Students Heading to Business and Industry Fair

Tenth grade students from Mercer High School will attend the Business and Industry Fair at the Park Inn by Radisson, in Hermitage, on Thursday, March 10th.

This will be the third consecutive year that Mercer High School is sending students to experience the Business and Industry Fair. Students participate in a multitude of activities throughout the day including: listening to a motivational speaker, talking with business leaders from the area, and participating in career-oriented games.

High School Talent Show To Be Held March 10th

High school students will showcase their talents to the public on Thursday, March 10th. The middle school event, featuring students in 7th and 8th grade, took place just two weeks ago. The talent show will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the Mercer Middle-High School Auditorium.

Spring Sports Begins TODAY

Spring sports officially commenced on Monday, March 7th. Today marked the first day that schools across the commonwealth were permitted to hold mandatory practice.

Good luck to the Baseball, Softball, and Track & Field sports as they begin their 2016 season.

Speech Results from CFL National Qualifier Tournament

The Mercer Speech Team traveled to Gannon University on Saturday, March 5th to compete in the Erie Catholic Forensic League National Qualifying Tournament. Students that placed in the Top Three in each respective category qualified for the Catholic Forensic League's 64th Grand National Tournament, to be held Memorial Day weekend in Sacramento, California. This was a very successful weekend for the Mercer Speech program, with 10 students qualifying for the national tournament. Here are the results:

Life Skills Classroom Preparing for Community Easter Egg Hunt

Ms. Hutcheson and her Life Skills classroom have been busy stuffing Easter Eggs for the Mercer Community Easter Egg Hunt. The students have organized stickers, candy, and toys to fill each egg. This year the students have successfully prepared 2,400 Easter eggs.
